    Welcome to Merryboys On line

We hope we provide a friendly welcoming riding school and try to keep riding accessible to all. We believe we offer fantastic value for money compared with other establishments and have been providing riding for all levels and ages for over 35 years now.

Merryboys owns over 40 acres of Kent countryside, and its a fact that more than half of that land is turned over for the sole use of wildlife sanctuaries so that we can protect our countryside and heritage for future generations to come. Further more Merryboys enforces a no hunting, shooting or ferreting rule across the lot.

"We specialise in teaching nervous or beginner riders, although we cater for all ages and levels of riding expertise".

"Our Animals are our Friends"

Merryboys not only works as a business but also does much in the way of charitable acts that go unsung or unseen. For many years now we have offered a home to many animals in need, from feral cats that grace our barns, placed through the Cats protection League to battery hens that have found freedom to live out the rest of their lives in and around our farm yard buildings.

Goats, geese, sheep, you name it we take in all sorts of animals in need here, when we can and even at times when we really shouldn't! We vow we will always find a way, and somehow, it seems we do.
We also provide free horse riding for the courageous children of Chernobyl. Its an event that everyone at Merryboys likes to get involved with and we look forward to hosting every year they visit.

For Sale

We have a selection of 2nd hand and new, quality English leather and synthetic saddles that are surplus to requirements.

Please help keep all saddles fitting 'like new' by following these simple tips to prevent damage to the surface &
internal structure (tree)

When mounting

  •  please use one of the mounting blocks provided.
In the 1st instance use the wooden mount situated in         the main yard and always for horses and ponies                 exceeding 13hh

  • Grip the saddle correctly
Hold the reins and mane with the left hand and the            middle of the saddle with the right hand.
NEVER grip the back of the saddle

When riding

  • kindly clean your boots before you mount
  • Extensive damage is caused by zippers on clothing that catch and graze the saddle.
If possible wear garments that have a 2 way zipper or button up

We would appreciate all riders helping keep our new tack in good condition and remaining a comfortable fit.

NEW SADDLES

fitted by Dragonfly Saddlery

 &
Minster Saddlery

Helen Macaulay was last week hard at it overseeing the fitting of new saddles for 7 Horses & Ponies and I'm sure that some of you have already been enjoying the fruits of her labour already.
The afternoon kicked off at 2pm but it was a  staggering  4 hour marathon fitting session that ensued.
Not only was Helen responsible for organising and holding all the equines required for the saddler, but she had to 'road test' the saddles too! Which meant jumping on board some of the ponies that are not fully broken to ride yet!!
Their was no fault with the existing tack, but as horses and ponies age their saddles often need to be checked by a professional saddler and if necessary altered or changed to ensure the horses comfort under saddle
The saddles were also required for several young stock that are currently being backed and broken to ride who currently have no saddle.
The saddler also checked the fit of saddles on other horses and was able to make adjustments on site where needed
The majority of the saddles were Thorogood which include the latest technological advances such as adjustable fit, which will mean that these saddles will be able to be adjusted easily to improve their fit when it is deemed necessary.
2 of the saddles purchased were traditional English leather
Minster Saddlery Saddler Keith was assigned the task of making a made to measure English leather saddle for Brandy which he felt was needed due to her conformation being slightly 'Sway Backed'. This meant that fitting an off the peg saddle for this pony would have been impossible
